Membership Transfer

Transferring your XYPN membership can occur for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you’re closing your firm and joining another XYPN firm, and you’d like to transfer your membership to the new firm. Or maybe you’re looking to transfer your membership to someone else within your current firm. What steps should you take if the individual you’re transferring to is already an XYPN member at your firm? And what if they aren’t yet an XYPN member?

To help clarify, I’ve outlined common scenarios below, along with specific steps to guide you through the transfer process.


Transferring Membership to a Non-XYPN Member

How can I transfer membership to another person at my firm if they are not currently an XYPN member?

  1. As the current firm owner, you’ll need to complete the following steps to transfer ownership of your firm to the new firm owner:
    • Add the new firm owner to your firm’s membership via the XYPN Portal using this link. Click "Add Advisor to Membership" and follow the prompts to complete this step.
    • Once added, the new firm owner will receive a link to complete the XYPN application.
    • After the new firm owner submits their application, we’ll review and approve it.
  2. Once Step #1 is complete:
    • Notify Membership: Please email us at membership@xyplanningnetwork.com to let us know. We’ll then transfer firm ownership from the current firm owner to the new firm owner after the application is approved.
    • After the ownership transfer, the new firm owner will need to remove you from the firm’s membership using this link. To do this, they should hover over the three ellipses next to your name and follow the steps to remove you.
    • Removal Policy: The new firm owner will need to submit this request to remove/cancel your XYPN membership by the 20th of the month by 5 pm (MST) to be off-boarded by the end of that month.
  3. IMPORTANT: Once Step #2 is complete, please notify us again so we can update our internal systems, including billing, to ensure everything is finalized. During this transition, our Finance Team will waive any prorated membership dues.
  4. A Note on Tech Software:
    • Once the firm ownership has been transferred to the new firm owner and you, the current firm owner, have been removed, the final step is to notify all tech software providers you are currently using about the transfer. You may reach out to membership@xyplanningnetwork.com to get a full list of your active tech softwares through XYPN.
    • Please note that most technology within our tech stack is managed directly through the software providers. While we strive to ensure a smooth transition, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or the seamless transfer of ownership or account data. For this reason, we strongly recommend reaching out to each tech partner directly to explain the situation and confirm the transfer of ownership.
  5. Transfer is complete!

Transferring Membership to an XYPN Member: Additional Firm Member at Your Firm

How can I transfer membership to another person at my firm if they are an additional advisor (XYPN Member) on my account?

  1. Notify Membership

    Please email us at membership@xyplanningnetwork.com to let us know who should receive the ownership transfer. We will then update the firm ownership from you, the current firm owner, to the new firm owner (currently an additional firm member).

  2. After the ownership transfer:
    • The new firm owner will need to remove you from the firm’s membership using this link. They can do this by hovering over the three ellipses next to your name and following the steps to complete the removal.
    • Removal Policy: The new firm owner will need to submit this request to remove/cancel your XYPN membership by the 20th of the month by 5 pm (MST) to be off-boarded by the end of that month.

Closing your Firm, Joining an XYPN Firm

How can I transfer membership if I'm closing my current firm and joining another firm?

  1. Notify Membership: Please email us at membership@xyplanningnetwork.com to let us know teh situation.
  2. Cancel your XYPN membership by following these steps:
    • Log into your XYPN Portal.
    • Click the gear icon to access your Settings.
    • On the top navigation icons, click "Status."
    • Click "Cancel my Membership."
    • Fill out the cancellation form and click "Submit." 
    • That's it! We'll be in touch with a cancellation confirmation.
  3. Once your membership is cancelled, have the firm owner of the firm you are joining add you as a new firm member to their membership by following these steps:
    • Log into your XYPN Portal.
    • Click on the My Firm tab.
    • Click "Add Advisor to Membership."
    • Follow the steps to add the new firm member.
    • Done!
