XYPN Operating System | Annual & Quarterly Goal Setting

WHY WE RECORD GOALS

Recording goals is the first step in accountability for yourself and your team. By documenting your annual goals, you can ensure that the quarterly projects have a common direction for your firm.

LET'S GET STARTED

This is your opportunity to define and record your project-related goals. These are the goals that support achieving your five-year plan. Record any major business changes and strategic initiatives here. This might include launching a new service, shifting market focus, adjusting leadership structure, or developing a new offering for clients.

Annual Project-Based Goals:

Tangible deliverables or accomplishments planned for the coming year to support achieving your KPIs. It is critical to clearly document your project goals by including the responsible party and a clear definition of what constitutes completion.

  • Goals are larger than to-dos
  • Goals are achievable in 1 year
  • Goals are specific and have a clear end state in the form of a deliverable, milestone, or decision
  • Goals have one clear, accountable owner
  • Goals create a noticeable impact through improvement or benefit when complete

Example:

Deliver firm-wide implementation of a new CRM system, including research, selection, purchase, data migration, and advisor rollout by 12/31/20xx.

Quarterly Project-Based Goals:

Tasks and projects that move you forward in reaching the annual goals for KPIs and for completion of larger projects. Always include a clear description of what constitutes completion of the goal, as well as the person ultimately responsible for the completion of the goal. Multiple people on your team may work on a goal, but one person is responsible for ensuring the goal is reached. Keep in mind the following guidelines for your project goals:

  • Goals drive progress toward annual goals or strategic projects
  • Goals are larger than to-dos, smaller than multi-quarter projects (typically achievable in 90 days)
  • Goals are specific and have a clear end state in the form of a deliverable, milestone, or decision
  • Goals have one clear, accountable owner
  • Goals create a noticeable impact through improvement or benefit when complete

Example:

Develop a list of requirements for a new Client Relationship Management (CRM), conduct in-depth demonstrations with at least 3 vendors, and create an evaluation scorecard to reflect findings. Present findings to the executive team by 03/31/20xx.
